Born in Sydney, 1976, Zoe Sernack has always wanted to be a painter. From an early age, she can remember only being truly content by isolating herself, and being totally immersed in the process of art making.
Attending the National Art School, East Sydney, was a natural progression, and it gave her a strong groundwork for the years to come. From the age of 19 she started exhibiting, being rewarded with an overwhelming response that gave her confidence to take the career of an artist.
Zoe is an established abstract artist whose work decpicts the spontaneity of the city landscape. In her smallerworks she portrays urban dwellers ("urban creatures" as she calls them) drawing upon a variety of diverse personalities. She is a self confessed dreamer, exploring well known themes such as love, hurt, attachement, and urban isolation. In the larger works Zoe uses a plethora of shapes and colours that reflect the dynamics of city life.
Sernack's paintings reflect an enigmatic quality while her energetic brushstrokes capture urgency and vibrancy, in which there exists the counterpoint of floating images drawn from subliminal dreams. Sernack explores shifting patterns in her composition and subject matter, tearing the intellect with her enigmatic symbolism. The viewer is somehow drawn to familiarities and then left to explore their inner thoughts.
Sernack has exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions and her work is represented in private and corporate collections around the world.
